Beginning of this week, about 40 monks went to Vietnam embassy in Cambodia. The aim was to give a petition asking for liberation of several monks hold in Vietnam. About 100 policemen with shields and clubs were waiting for them. The meeting has quickly turned in a violent skirmish. About 20 monks would have been hurt and 3 of them have been transported to hospital. Despite several witness, police spoke about self defense to justify their acts. Comments (1) | Views: 765 |

In Bali, the international conference on climatic changing is closing today. Representatives from 190 countries has negotiated during 2 weeks about agreements that will replace those signed in Kyoto in 1997. One more time, United States was blamed.  - The ancient history of the kingdom of Cambodia is usually divided in three periods : the pre-Angkorian, Angkorian, and post-Angkorian.
- pre-Angkorian period : from 100 B.C. to 100 A.C.
- Angkorian period : from 100 A.C. to 1400 A.C.
- post-Angkorian period : from 1400 to 1700

The Khmers rouges exactions gave fatal blows to local culture. They destroyed statues, music instruments, books : anything that could link to the past. The story of the Kingdom of Cambodia started at the begining christian era and developped under a strong Indian inflence, especially on religions, art and social organization level. The Khmer mentalityTwo essential element always remain in the Khmer society, even in the darkest times : the respect of the king, and the pyramidal structure of the social hierarchy.
